Szymański’s Awakening. And at what moment! What a pulp
Sebastian Szymański has not been able to score a goal for Fenerbahce for several months. The match against Istanbulspor, which was of great importance in the context of the fight for the Turkish championship, was his last chance to break through. And the Polish representative took advantage of it, contributing to a very high victory. However, there were not so many reasons to be happy, thanks to what Galatasaray did.
Sebastian Szymański made a fantastic entry into Fenerbahce. Then he had a bad period, but in recent weeks he performed better again and made several assists. The only thing missing was the goal he had been waiting for since January 10 and the match against Konyaspor (7:1). And it finally happened.
Sebastian Szymański scored a goal for Fenerbahce. What a pogrom
In the last round of the Turkish league, Fenerbahce faced Istanbulspor, which is definitely the worst in the league (only 16 points before the last series of games). And it couldn’t afford a slip-up, because only a victory allowed them to maintain their dreams of overtaking Galatasaray and winning the title
Already in the eighth minute, Edin Deeko scored a goal from a penalty kick and Fenerbahce was leading 1-0. And after a quarter of an hour it was 2-0 thanks to Szymański. He took advantage of unclean clearances from his opponents and, being a few meters in front of the goal, shot under the crossbar. This ended the wait for a goal that lasted over four months.
Before the break, Dusan Tadić increased the score to 3-0 (35th minute). Fenerbahce continued to press in the second half, with goals scored by Bright Osayi-Samuel (66), Serdar Dursun (76) and Joshua King (78). It ended with the score 6-0 (Szymański played the full 90 minutes ), but we had to listen to the news from the Galatasaray match.
The end of Fenerbahce’s dreams. Space competition to Galatasaray’s advantage
Galatasaray needed at least a point to avoid having to look at their local rival. And after 53 minutes it became clear that he would not let go of the title. After a double by Mauro Icardi (29th and 51st) and a goal by Berkan Kutlu (53rd), the team led 3-0 against Konyaspor. And even though they lost a goal, they could still enjoy their second championship in a row.
The two challengers were definitely out of reach of the rest of the field. In 38 matches, Galatasaray scored as many as 102 points (out of 114 possible) and had a goal balance of 92-26. Fenerbache, on the other hand, finished the competition with 99 points and a goal balance of 99-31. Throughout the season, they suffered only one defeat (Galatasaray two), but had six draws (to the local rival’s three). Third place Trabzonspor had… 67 points
Sebastian Szymański and his colleagues may feel quite dissatisfied, but it was still a successful season for the Polish representative. Counting all competitions, he scored 13 goals and made 19 assists in 55 games. It is possible that he will become the hero of a big transfer in the summer . But before that, he will most likely take part in Euro 2024
Will Sebastian Szymański leave Fenerbahce in the summer?
