Surprising words from the goalkeeper of Śląsk Wrocław. “I don’t know if that’s entirely fair.”

On Saturday, May 26, the PKO BP Ekstraklasa 2023/2024 season ended. Jagiellonia Białystok became the Polish champion, beating Warta Poznań at home (3-0). Śląsk Wrocław was runner-up. The match of the team led by Jacek Magiera was delayed by several minutes due to bad weather conditions. Rafał Leszczyński did not hide his disappointment with this situation. – I don’t know if it’s entirely fair… – he said in an interview with tvpsport.pl.

In the 2023/2024 season, Premier League matches brought many surprises. Few people expected that Jagiellonia Białystok and  Śląsk Wrocław would fight for the title until the last round. Especially after the first team lost 0-3 away to Raków Częstochowa at the inauguration of the competition, and the second team drew 1-1 with Korona Kielce.

Before the last round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, the situation was simple. To win the third championship in history, Śląsk Wrocław had to score more points in the match  against Raków Częstochowa than Jagiellonia did in the match against Warta Poznań.

Rafał Leszczyński was extremely disappointed after the end of the season. “I don’t know if that’s entirely fair.”

The last, i.e. 34th round, took place on Saturday, May 25. All matches except the match between Raków and Śląsk started at 5:30 p.m. The reason for the delay of over half an hour was rain.  Rafał Leszczyński spoke on this matter in an interview with  tvpsport.pl.  Śląsk’s goalkeeper believes that in this situation, Jagiellonia’s match should also be delayed.

– I have mixed feelings. An unusual situation, because the weather played a trick on us. I don’t know if it’s entirely fair… I think we should play at the same time as Jagiellonia. When we went onto the pitch after several dozen minutes, we knew that the score was 3-0 in Białystok and there was no point in cheating, we were a bit broken – he admitted.

I don’t know if it should be like that, but today we showed that we are mentally strong. You have to give credit to Jagiellonia for winning the Polish championship, they turned out to be better than us in the direct match – he summed up.

Ultimately, Śląsk Wrocław won away against Raków Częstochowa 2:1 and finished the season in second place. Jagiellonia Białystok became the national champion.
